Brake pressure accumulator
sphere
The function of the brake
pressure reservoir
is usually unknown, and its
importance is often underestimated.
As
long as it does its service without
complaint, we even don't take any
notice of it. If, however, the
nitrogen gas escaped by aging
(diffusion), the
brake servo might fail unexpectedly.
Possibly one is unpleasantly
taken by surprise because in such
case a considerably much larger
foot force is required, to brake the
vehicle effectively.
Certain sign of waning
accumulator pressure, is
regular
flashing of the warning lamp for
the hydraulic pressure system,
after the
engine got started. When this is
indicated, it is high time to
renew or to repair the pressure
accumulator. Also when the brake
pedal feels harder very quickly,
when it is actuated for a several
times with engine
cut off, you should consider
to check the pressure reservoir
immediately. A new or overhauled
brake
pressure reservoir allows minimum
20 (up to 30) brake actuations
before
the brake force will decrease.
A repair of brake pressure
accumulators
is possible in many cases, as long
as the accumulator has not been
operated for too long
with very low nitrogen pressure
ratio. Furthermore the diaphragm and
the internal valve must not be
damaged. For safety reasons, brake
pressure reservoirs without any
residual pressure
cannot be overhauled even if the
membrane seems still okay.
Our service includes a
preliminary
examination for residual nitrogen
pressure ratio and proper
function of the pressure-relief–
and –retention valve. If
the valves and the diaphragm are
intact, the accumulator can be
equipped with an additional
inflation valve and filled up to
nominal pressure with
nitrogen. Such
a retrofitted pressure
accumulator can later be filled
with little effort.
Repair options
We provide
repairs of pressure accumulators for the Audi models
Type
44, C4 and D11 (Audi V8 Quattro) and
ABS accumulator spheres for Saab
900, VW Passat and Alfa Romeo as well.
Tip:
When replacing the pressure
accumulator it
makes sense to renew the hydraulic
oil.
Low
cost bundle: Accumulator Repair
and hydraulic oil.
