Height Control Valves

Lowering of the rear of the vehicle when parking and oil leaks can be caused by a defective level control valve.

Height control valves work quite reliably. Nevertheless, problems, especially leaks, can occur due to defective suspension accumulators and corrosion. A repair is then possible in many cases. However, the most common cause of malfunctions is improper manipulation of the adjustment of the control linkage. If the rear end is too high due to defective suspension accumulators, it is often assumed that the adjustment of the height control valve is the cause. However, this is almost never the case. As a rule, this is due to defective or worn suspension accumulators. In cases where the level is clearly not correct, it is necessary to check whether the control rod is broken or unhooked. In most cases, however, this is not the case, and the setting should not be changed. Under no circumstances should the linkage lever on the level control valve be detached from the shaft or even removed. This makes the correct basic setting of the valve considerably more difficult in the event of a necessary repair. And the correct chassis height can then only be set with great difficulty or not at all.
